The Beauty of Holiness

HEADLINE EVENT
The Beauty of Holiness: Holy Trinity - a story of resilience

30 minutes

A discussion with historian, and Holy Trinity biographer, Peyton Skipwith, on our church’s rich history of resilience in its 130th year.

Holy Trinity is thought to be forged from grief; commissioned by Lady Cadogan in 1888 following the tragic and untimely death of her young son. Since then the church has witnessed pandemics, two world wars and bomb damage of the Blitz, and escaped destruction at the hands of developers in the 1970s. 2020 is another unprecedented period in that long and often difficult history.

How has Holy Trinity weathered these storms and what does that tell us about faith, strength, community, and passion in overcoming adversity?

Peyton joined The Fine Art Society in New Bond Street in 1961, where he worked for the next forty-four years. His interests include late 19th- and early 20th-century sculpture, alongside the entire aesthetic of the Arts & Crafts Movement. After Peyton contributed to the catalogue of the Centennial Exhibition of the Art Workers Guild, he was elected an Honorary Member, later serving as the Guild Master in 1998. He met Bishop Michael Marshall through the Guild and was invited to write the 2002 guidebook to Holy Trinity.
